Audio Analysis of Big Band/Swing Music
Glenn Miller - In The Mood;
One of the instruments I heard throughout the songs I listened to were Brass instruments. They were some of the loudest instruments throughout the song. One of them being trumpets which were extremely loud and piercing throughout the songs. Another instrument I heard which was a lot more quiet than the brass and in the background of the song more was a piano which was barely noticeable. Another constant instrument which is fairly loud and clear which seemed to be to keep the rhythm was what I think is a open hi hat. Also the kick drum was quite quiet and hushed throughout the song but the tom's were being played louder and had more presence throughout the song when they were played every now and again. The last instrument in the songs that I could hear was a Bass guitar being played throughout the song. It sounded very deep and low and it was a lot quieter then a lot of the other instruments. There was no panning in Glenn Miller's - In The Mood as far as I was able to tell. There are also vocals in Duke Ellington's - It Don't Mean a Thing. They are very brief but they are fairly loud and have a presence in the song along with the string and brass instruments. I can't hear any panning in these songs for as far as I can tell. In It Don't mean a Thing the Piano is slightly louder then the one in In The Mood.
